Why BASI (Body Arts & Sciences International)?
Since 1989, BASI founder Rael Isacowitz has trained Pilates teachers in his own image: passionate, dedicated, highly skilled and deeply committed to the Pilates ethos of ensuring happiness through physical fitness. Rael has over 30 years mastering the Pilates repertoire, and received his training and inspiration from first-generation Pilates teachers (also knows as the “Elders” personally trained by Joseph Pilates) including Kathy Grant, Romana Kryzanowska, Eve Gentry and Lolita San Miguel. The BASI system is taught worldwide with over 100 Pilates host studios in more than 25 countries.
No program is more trusted than that offered by BASI Pilates®. A BASI Pilates Teacher Certification is truly regarded as the gold standard for many reasons:

Method
The heart of the BASI Pilates method is the Block System®, a structured means of classifying and combining the hundreds of exercises in the Pilates repertoire. The Block System ensures the progressive structuring of classes within a flexible framework, creating sessions that are balanced, well-rounded and address all planes of movement and multiple muscle groups.

Uniform Curriculum
All BASI Pilates courses, from teacher training to specialized Advanced Education Courses, are based on an established and tested curriculum of studies, designed or approved by Rael Isacowitz. A BASI education, taught by any member of faculty and anywhere in the world, is always a BASI education: structured, detailed and thorough.

Faculty
BASI Pilates has a select faculty of some 30 highly trained and experienced teachers, with a combined total of over 400 years of Pilates experience. The faculty is diverse, eclectic and multicultural, with teachers coming from different backgrounds – such as dance, academia, physical therapy and martial arts – and from numerous countries, including the US, UK, Germany, Greece, Japan, China, South Africa and Israel.

Study Materials
BASI Pilates courses are supported by in-depth printed and electronic materials, study guides, movement analysis workbooks and DVDs. BASI students also receive credits for the use of Pilates Interactive, the unique online teaching resource, with hundreds of exercises, workouts and instructional tutorials in high-quality video.

Advanced Education
BASI Pilates offers a formal program of specialization for Pilates professionals, enabling them to both stay on the cutting edge of Pilates education and gain expertise in new, and lucrative, areas of Pilates specialization.

Here’s what Studio Blue BASI Pilates students had to say about their training:
“I found the BASI method to much more comprehensive and detail oriented than Stott. The BASI repertoire is “updated” to be more relevant to modern lifestyles and practices since Joseph Pilates began in 1920’s. Rael and the BASI team are supportive throughout and beyond the actual training and they go out of their way to welcome new students to the BASI family. And the BASI “Pilates Interactive” web site is a wealth of information for studying and practicing the repertoire. I learned A LOT.” – Evy S.

“I completed my BASI CTTC at Studio Blue in December, 2013. The coursework was intense and required a lot of time and a dedication as a student, but I am so grateful for this experience. The BASI method is thorough with a heavy emphasis on anatomy and therefore safety – something I have not seen as much with other Pilates courses. Our instruction also emphasized the importance of the mind-body connection, something Joseph Pilates greatly believed in. My clients now tell me that they feel comfortable, safe and appropriately challenged when I am teaching them with the BASI method.” – Jen L.
